TRI-ROLLER SWAGING TOOLS

Tri-Roller Swage Tools produce a smooth, mirror-like surface to the swaging lip on the bearing. Virtually no gap is visible between the swaged lip and the housing and thus will provide superb mating and retention between the two components. This is in stark contrast to the solution provided by the anvil tool where the surface whilst even is not as smooth as the roller tool and the obvious gap between the swaging lip and the housing would suggest an inferior retention and mating between bearing and housing.

Drill Press Cutting Tool

The UNASIS Drill Press Cutter Tool is used to cut the v-groove of a bearing, v-groove of a housing, or the retention sleeve. Throughout the process a cut is made on the lip to ensure it is able to be pressed out without harming damaging the housing. The UNASIS drill press cutting tool is manufactured with the outside diameter of the teeth smaller than the housing bore. This is so that it is impossible to cut the housing during the operation.

Portable Press Cutting Tool

The UNASIS Portable Cutter Tool is utilised to cut the v-groove of a bearing, v-groove of a housing, or a retention sleeve. Throughout the process a cut is made on the lip to ensure it is able to be pressed out without harming the housing. The cutting tool is manufactured with a spring applying force on the cutter teeth, to ensure the operator does not control this force. This will help to reduce any expensive operational errors causing damage to the cutter teeth and will ensure longevity of use.

Specialist Cutting Tools

Due to the high temperature requirements, the bearings needed for these applications are built of superalloys, like Inconel 718. Since these materials are infamously challenging to cut, UNASIS have developed a variety of specialised cutting tools to ease the process. UNASIS offer the best cutters for engine mount bearings, industry-wide.

PROOF LOAD & BREAK AWAY TESTING TOOLS

To compliment the extensive range of installation and removal tools UNASIS is also able to offer a wide range of testing tools. The testing tool range includes both break away torque testing and proof load testing. The type of tooling options supplied are determined by the OEM specification that is being used. To react to this, UNASIS tools are manufactured to comply with the respective customer requirement or specification.

Portable Proof Load Kit

Portable proof loading tools take the form of an electronic handheld display, receiver cups and load cell. These are highly mobile units that enable, if required, proof loading of newly installed bearings without the need to full remove the component from its assembly. Each unit is supplied with a load cell specific to the bearing being used and calibrated to the appropriate load value required as per the specification. Electronic handheld displays can be calibrated to work with a number of load cells which reduce cost as a single display can be returned for recalibration and additional load cells added to its library only requiring the purchase of an additional load cell.

Anvil Proof Load Kit

The press style tools come in the form of pusher and receiver cups to support the bearing whilst being pressure loaded during tests. This style of tool is designed to work with a press (hydraulic/pneumatic) and customers own load cell. Press style proof loading tools are ideal for any specification where precise incremental loads need to be applied as they securely hold the bearing and evenly distribute the load to provide accurate testing results. Each size of bearing requires its own pusher and receiver cup to accurately match the swaging groove and housing on each bearing.

Portable Breakaway Torque Kit

Breakaway torque testing tools take the form of a specialised torque wrench which, whilst holding the bearing in place, measures the force required to rotate the ball once the bearing is installed into its housing. Due to the simple and lightweight design UNASIS break away torque testing tools can easily be used on components already installed in application. The Torque Testing Tools are simple to use and feature a memory dial indicator which records the peak force value. Break away torque testers and receiver cups are made to order items that are designed to help measure effectiveness against the requirements of the customers specification. Typical, standard tools work within a range of 0-170in/lbs but if the requirement falls outside of limits a tool can be made to suit. Similarly, the hardware which retains the bearing can be adapted and customised to suit complex housings. Multiple retainers and receiver

Swivel Torque Tool

The Unasis Swivel Torque Tool is an excellent solution for testing both the misalignment torque of a mounted bearing and the swivel torque. Many major manufacturer’s process specifications have detailed the test including Boeing BAC5435 and Airbus AIPI / AIPS 03-03-012. UNASIS have identified the inaccuracies and difficulties in testing the misalignment torque whilst using a spring scale and engineered a solution that cannot be found anywhere else. Our UNASIS Swivel Torque Tool does not need to be calculated by the sine of the spring scale angle and by multiplying the moment arm distance by the force. The design of the tool ensures that the axis of rotation is always down the centre line of the bearing.

INSTALL/REMOVE TOOL

The UNASIS Portable Install/Remove Tool is used with a chamfered bearing, v-groove bearing, or sleeve. It has two important functions:

  1. Install the Bearing: Safely and accurately drift the bearing into the housing prior to swaging.
  2. Remove the Bearing: Extracting the bearing from the housing after cutting.

Situations where the bearing has an interference fit with the housing ensures that it is impossible to install the bearing within the housing without a tool’s support. An unprecise attempt at installing the bearing can create an indentation into the housing, which could potentially damage it beyond repair. The use of a precision drifting tool will make sure there is complete repeatability throughout the bearing installation process. Sliding the bearing into the housing is possible if the bearing has a clearance fit within the housing. Following the bearing being cut, it is essential that a tool is utilised to safely and securely remove the bearing. The removal element of the install/remove tool has a pusher, which allows the cut-v groove to fold into itself without impacting the housing. The bearings out of the housing is then accepted using the receiver cup.

SLEEVE FLAT ROLLER AND U ROLLER SWAGING TOOL

The UNASIS Flat Roller Swaging Tool is utilised within a chamfered bearing and housing. To place the material onto the bearing and housing, a sacrificial sleeve is used. This tool is commonly used on the Boeing BAC5435. We can also offer the U-Roller Swaging Tool which is a common method for process specifications such as Airbus Specification 01-05-10

Ball Roller Swaging Tool

The UNASIS segment staking tool is used with a sharp-edge housing and chamfered bearing. This particular tool is utilised with a mechanical/arbour, hydraulic, or pneumatic press. The tool slowly places the ductile housing material onto the bearing and locks it into place. The design of the UNASIS Ball Roller Swaging Tool is important as too little, or too much material can have unfavourable effects. It is not possible to reuse the housing unless the hole reamed and a larger bearing is utilised. However, this particular method is not a common practice.

Reverse Tri-Roller Swaging Tool

The UNASIS Reverse Tri-Roller Swaging Tool is utilised with a v-groove housing and chamfered bearing. The tool works as an inverse of the main tri-roller swaging method. The housing is swaged onto the bearing, rather than swaging the bearing onto the housing. It is essential that correct tool is selected, as you get one attempt to install the bearing. Furthermore, if the bearing is inaccurately installed, the housing may be damaged to the point where it cannot be repaired.
