KAMATICS SPECIALTY BEARINGS

` The Story of Kamatics is the story of Karon`
It began in 1966 when Kaman engineers developed KAcarb to address the failures of rotor flap bearings on the SH-2 Sea Sprite that were failing at an alarming rate in the harsh maritime conditions. The success of this KAcarb material led to the establishment of Kamatics who developed the material in a revolutionary product, the KAron Liner System, in 1973—the first self-lubricating liner moulded onto bearing surfaces and capable of precision machining. Kamatics has continued to improve this technology, producing maintenance-free self-lubricating bearings applicable in various industries. The KAron system remains central to Kamatics’ innovations alongside other engineered products.

KAron™ Liner System

As the KAron Liner System is primarily used as a bearing surface or to resist abrasion it can reduce wear and improve performance in any application or environment.

Whatever your industry, there is a KAron liner that can improve performance and life in your application.

  • Fixed wing aircraft
  • Helicopter
  • Air vehicle landing gear
  • Satellite or spacecraft
  • Marine vehicle
  • Hydropower dam
  • Oil and gas exploration platform

All KAron liners

  • Have a low coefficient of friction
  • Improve application life
  • Reduce the need for maintenance

How it works: The Karon Liner is bonded and cured to the bearing or required surface, as it is a homogenous material, it then can be machined to precision tolerances as required by the customer or recommended for the application.

KAron Wear Strips: Kamatics also offer high-performance abrasion-resistant P54 and KAron wear strips, specifically engineered to prevent metal-to-metal wear and fretting damage caused by sliding or rubbing surfaces. These products deliver an exceptional layer of defence against wear, ensuring the longevity of the items they protect.

Titanium Diffusion Hardening

Kamatics Titanium Diffusion Hardening (TDH) technology improves the hardness and performance characteristics of Titanium components, making it viable for high wear, high load applications.

Untreated titanium boasts a high strength to weight ratio, performs well at high temperatures, and is very resistant to corrosion. However, when compared to steels, it has a relatively low hardness level and tendency to gall and seize under high loads or while sliding. TH treatment eliminates these problems and improves wear and friction properties in bearing applications.

TDH is the best option to take advantage of weight savings offered by Titanium for high-load or high-wear applications.

  • Kamatics utilises a diffusion process to create a hardened case layer within the original titanium article (not a coating).
  • Hardness of 60 Rockwell C
  • Case layer depth .008” or 200 microns
  • Creates a smooth hard bearing surface in titanium alloys

Custom Engineering

Whether your application is for a fixed wing aircraft, helicopter, hydropower dam, marine vehicle or spacecraft, Kamatics engineers have the expert experience needed to create innovative custom engineered solutions to your biggest challenges.

Kamatics specialise in creating low friction, low wear systems that outlast and outperform the competition, and can be tailored to the specific needs of an application. Kamatics engineers create solutions that can’t be bought out of a catalogue as they directly address the challenges of the individual application and create customised solutions to extend life and increase performance in challenging applications.

KARON™ Self-Lubricating Rod Ends & Spherical Bearings

Reduce maintenance and extend service life with Kamatics Low Maintenance Self-Lubricating Bearings. Kamatics bearings are manufactured with conventional stainless-steel alloys, or other specialised alloys based on application, temperature and environment. These self-lubricating bearings provide maintenance-free performance and extended service life for aircraft bearings, helicopter bearings, defence bearings, and marine applications. Kamatics also has a breadth of experience engineering spherical bearings and rod end bearings for use in engines, landing gear systems, and flight control assemblies.
